Week 172 and Week 85.5 - Shrek and the Chipped tooth

Our dear Sophia is a terror in the making. I think she has realized that she is cute and charming and thinks she can get away with murder – because she has. She does things and then runs away or just laughs and I know I get distracted by her cuteness... but alas she is getting at an age where she needs to become responsible for her actions. She would NOT eat on Sunday for dinner. I mean, seriously do anything else and then throw her food and water on the floor. And then laugh. Sort of an impish grin. Matt gave her her first time out on Sunday which ended with a night without dinner (or very little). Matt did manage to give our little imp a bath which was impressive as I (being of stricter Korean roots) probably would have just made her sleep in her day clothes. But this is a reaction to why I am the less strict parent and her first time out/no dinner was orchestrated by my more steadfast husband.

We have tried to put both the girls in the same room and I requested that we put Charlotte in the guest room after a couple of weeks of 6AM mornings... I think that they are sleeping longer separately so we will stay with this for now.

Sophia knows a ton of words... we had no idea.  We show her picture books and flash cards and she knows a lot of the words... like car, airplane, duck, brush.... she also has started asking "why?" but has luckily not begun the circle of whys.

Over the weekend we went to this Dreamworks meet and greet.  We talked up meeting Shrek to Charlotte who was excited.  We walked to the meet and greet (at Sands Cotai Central) and, just like clockwork, she was scared and crying.  I was able to take Sophia to see Kung Fu Panda.  She kind of wailed once we got close but did not cry when the shutter was released.  I think our trip to Disney in Hong Kong is a long time from now.

I am kind of bummed.  Sophia chipped her tooth while trying to climb the bathtub this evening.  She is off to the dentist tomorrow - and I am mourning her perfect teeth (she chipped her front top right tooth).  There was a lot of blood as she cut her inner lip too... sigh... my only consolation is that it is a baby tooth.  I just hope that there is not nerve or more permanent damage...

Week 171 and Week 84.5 - Terrible twos and haircuts

Egads - I thought I could knock out a blog post yesterday but alas we had guys installing light fixtures and curtains and pictures and we did not know what to do with our kids and it was just a long day.

I took the girls twice to the Macau Science Center which is my new favorite place.  An age appropriate, immaculate playground?  Check.  A McDonald's next door?  Check (I know I know, there are a lot of McDonald's haters out there - but it is an easy win for the kids).  Free wifi?  Check.  Free lockers?  Check.  And the best part?  The price is FREE!  Excellent for rainy days like today.

Sophia is well into her terrible twos - every car ride is becoming such a hassle when she is not in a car seat (sorry Becky - but we just can't bring it every time).  Lots of screaming and standing and screaming and standing.  Was Charlotte this bad?  We of course don't think so but of course we have that child rearing amnesia.

Sophia is super drooly this week - perhaps more of her teeth are coming?  I think she already has sixteen of them...

I took the girls to get their haircuts this week (after a screaming fit on a public bus with Sophia).  The Chinese gal clearly did not understand what a little meant off the back of Sophia's hair - and she now has that Frauline Maria/bowl cut look that Matt and Imee do not like.  It is growing on me now - it really shows off her cute face - but I do miss those curls too.  For the life of me I could not get her partner later to cut the length off of Charlotte's hair.  I really need to learn Cantonese!

Someone called Sophia a boy at the Macau Science Center and I was pretty miffed by it.

Thomas and Em paid us a brief visit which was great fun!  We got to swim at the Venetian pool with the girls.  They took us to Savory Crab which is our new favorite breakfast place - cheap and yummy and not crowded with big portions!

We went to Hong Kong this weekend and I have decided that dim sum is a dangerous place for a wayward toddler.  Also those dim sum waiters could really work any trading floor!

Week 170 and Week 83.5 - We got our stuff!

Yeah!  We got our stuff on Tuesday and have spent the last few days unpacking.  Kudos to Imee who has worked really hard to get the stuff unpacked (did I mention I hate moving?  I have a mental block against it, it sort of puts me in a depressed tizzy, Imee can just plow through with no emotion - it is wonderful).  Our stuff is 99% unpacked - now we just have to put proper light fixtures up and our gazillion pictures.

Sorry again for the super late post - I hope to be back on schedule next week as there really are no more excuses (well, except the kids are home all day and so are we and everything just seems a bit cosier even though we are in a bigger living space).  Charlotte and Sophia and now sharing a room and that is convenient for us but Charlotte is revolting a bit.  She ends up in our room almost every night - this is fine with me as I can sleep through most anything but Matt ends up with several sleepless nights.  Sophia is generally getting up once a night but I can just pick her up and feed her and then put her back.  It is tough when all four of us are sharing our queen bed.  Luckily I think we have been able to kick Charlotte out of our bed but onto our daybed (I will post pictures maybe next week of our new digs.  Our bedroom is quite spacious which is good as it will double as Matt's office).

The kids are playing in the nearby playgrounds but they are full of dog poo - gross!  Certainly not Singapore standards (and it is a private condo playground - which I think should be better maintained than a public one).  I told Matt we should just buy some playground equipment and make an indoor one in our apartment.

The girls have gotten good at see-sawing.

Jen and Uncle Matthieu came for a dinner from Hong Kong and Saturday and it was so great to see them and catch up.

We went to Galaxy and had a dim sum lunch fail - but had lunch anyway and saw a Smurf exhibit.

Charlotte and I went to Hong Kong and IKEA to get curtains - she was mostly good but it was still super exhausting!  We were both out on our ferry ride back.

Matt has an office in Macau but it is not yet ready so he is working from home and is really not into it.  Whenever I try to get something done at home it is generally difficult too (I think Matt has some empathy now for my 'work-from-home' plight).

Speaking of which - in comes Charlotte and now I have to cut the text short and get on with the pictures!

The girls nap together - never again!
